Bridging Long Time
نویسنده
چکیده
Numerous recent papers (including many NIPS papers) focus on standard recurrent nets' inability to deal with long time lags between relevant input signals and teacher signals. Rather sophisticated, alternative methods were proposed. We rst show: problems used to promote certain algorithms in numerous previous papers can be solved more quickly by random weight guessing than by the proposed algorithms. This does not mean that guessing is a good algorithm. It just casts doubt on whether the other algorithms are, or whether the chosen problems are meaningful. We then use long short term memory (LSTM), our own recent algorithm, to solve hard problems that can neither be quickly solved by random weight guessing nor by any other recurrent net algorithm we are aware of.

Patch Dynamics for Multiscale Problems Bridging the Macroscale and Microscale
There are important systems—those that couple molecular dynamics with a material’s macroscale behavior or use a Boltzmann particle model to predict large-scale patterns in a fluid flow, for example—that must be modeled on relatively long time or space scales, but the dynamics can be advanced only on short time or space scales. First developed by Yannis Kevrekidis and his collaborators,1–5 patch...
متن کاملComparison of therapeutic results of large saphenous vein resection with conventional methods and standard bridging
Background: The use of the traditional method for saphenous vein harvesting is associated with wound complications and not on-time patient mobilization. This has caused the improvement of minimally invasive vein harvesting techniques, together with general bridging. This study was designed to compare the therapeutic results of...
متن کاملBridging the Gap Between Research and Policy and Practice; Comment on “CIHR Health System Impact Fellows: Reflections on ‘Driving Change’ Within the Health System”
Far too often, there is a gap between research and policy and practice. Too much research is undertaken with little relevance to real life problems or its reported in ways that are obscure and impenetrable. At the same time, many policies are developed and implemented but are untouched by, or even contrary to evidence. An accompanying paper describes an innovative progr...
متن کاملBridging: Interactional mechanisms used by online groups to sustain knowledge building over time
In naturalistic settings, the sustained knowledge-building and collaborative learning of small virtual groups and online learning communities require that co-participants overcome a wide range of gaps in their interactions. We present an analysis of sequences of online collaborative problem-solving sessions held by teams of non-collocated mathematics students as part of the Virtual Math Teams (...
متن کاملEffect of Carbonate Additives on Dynamic Filtration Index of Drilling Mud
Filtration index of the drilling fluid is an important parameter of well drilling, especially at drilling-in the reservoirs. Standard parameter in the study of drilling fluids is static filtration index. At the same time, it is more feasible to determine dynamic filtration index, if considering actual conditions of the well. Use of polymer carbonate-weighted drilling fluids is advisable at dril...
متن کاملDense networks within a group help bridging networks between groups: interchange of people between mountainous and urban areas
People embedded in dense social networks are likely to trust and cooperate with other members of their group. However, these individuals are also likely to turn inward and harbor strong hostility toward groups outside their network. Thus, it is important to establish bridging networks between groups. However, the effect of dense networks within a group on bridging networks between groups remain...
